Fashion from the Bible
Ok, we might think that the bible is old-fashioned, not up-to-date at all. But the Bible is a manual on how to live life. It teaches you EVERYTHING you need to know - and that includes fashion.
Here are some verses which express fashion, and what we are wearing...
Colossians 3:12-14 ...clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness & patience.
1 Corinthians 7:31 ...for the fashion of this world passes away
Matthew 9:16... No one patches an old coat with a new piece of cloth that will shrink. When the patch shrinks, it will rip away from the coat, and the tear will become worse.
Ezekial 16:9-14...I put an embroidered dress on you and fine leather sandals on your feet. I dressed you in fine linen and covered you with silk.I gave you jewelry. I put bracelets on your wrists and a necklace around your neck.I put a ring in your nose, earrings on your ears, and a beautiful crown on your head.So you wore gold and silver jewelry. You were dressed in fine linen, silk, and embroidered clothes. Your food was flour, honey, and olive oil. You were very beautiful, and eventually you became a queen. You became famous in every nation because of your beauty. Your beauty was perfect because I gave you my glory, declares the Almighty LORD.
That last part, that I have made different to the others - You beauty was perfect because I (God) gave you my glory.
It's not because a magazine tells us that skinny jeans are in that we are gorgeous - it's because God makes us that way. If you consider yourself to be really normal, and average - compared to those other girls your age who are already dating (even thouhg they're too young) or their highlighting their hair, or all wearing the same brand of jeans, or all wearing heaps of make-up to school...well, when your older - you'll look really healthy and fresh...actually, you'd look like that now!
I'm in year 7, at a private Christian school - and lots of the girls their are wearing heaps of make-up...actually, all of the things I've just mentioned above! And while I'm not totally 'out of it' - I do know what's in (but I prefer going for comfort over 'in' looks!), but I really don't want to highlight my hair, or even THINK about dating! It's hard enough just working your way into the high school life - and HOMEWORK...not to mention friends - to think about anything else! But remember - even when your life seems so full, you have no time alone - make sure you MAKE some time for you and God - it'll make your life SO much easier! And, I'm going to take my own advice - and talk to him, and read the bible =)

This is a great post! Its so true. I'm home schooled (plus I'm younger) so I don't go through it, but I'm sure I will one day. I'll remember this ;).
ReplyDeleteHey
ReplyDeleteYou are totally right Emily. The girls at my school are totally in to Hollister and really expensive brand names. But even though the look "cool" on the outside they really arn't. None of them have true friends. And the people that they call friends are always gossipping about them. They never have fun anyway and because they are so crazy about guys the don't actully know them as friends. Which is really sad because you know that they'll "break up and get back together" in a mater of days. And you can bet they don't even hang out with the guys beacause so they don't get to actully have fun with the guys.
That's so true -- I'm glad you understood what I meant, those girls' life sure can be complicated! Our lives can seem so complicated, too -- but at least we have true friends to keep us company on the journey =)
