temptation/peer-pressure

Temptation is everywhere. Food, people...heaps of stuff.

You may be temped to do different things, things that may seem worse than others. Maybe a friend wants to let her/him copy off your test, or maybe it's the other way around. Maybe you can hear this little voice in your head, saying 'What good are you doing here? Your no good!' Or, 'Give up. It's not worth it.' Or 'Come on, come to the movies. Your parents will never know.'

It's like in the Adam and Eve story, when the Devil tricks them into eating off the tree that God told they could NOT eat off, or they'd die, or whatever. They should have listened to God. But they didn't -- they gave into Satan, who had kept saying that if would be okay.

Satan also tempted Jesus, when he was in the desert, remember? But Jesus did not give into temptation, even though it would've been easier for him.

The same is true with us. It might be easier just to follow the crowd, to do what everyone else is doing. But, come on. We need to not give into temptation. Being like and doing the same as everyone else isn't what's important. Doing what we need do to for God is important. Remember that part of the Lord's prayer --

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

1 Corinthians 10:13

13No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.
