Judging

Okay, this is a post I've been wanting to do for a while now. Judging.

Yesterday I did a review of Miley's book, "Miles to Go", and some of you didn't like her voice. And hey, there's nothing wrong with that. But some of you also didn't think she "acted" like a Christian. How is a "Christian" supposed to act?

Yeah, well, people think different things. What do I think? Go to the top of the page -- what's that line that scrolls across the screen? it's not a religion. it's a relationship.

Being a Christian is not about following all the rules and stuff -- it's not about praying 10 times a day, it's not about going to church every week. It's about having a relationship with Jesus.

Maybe you think I'm judging you -- rest assured, I'm not. I just want you to know, and this subject is one I feel kind of strongly about. I know I'm not perfect -- I know I judge people sometimes -- but I'm going to try really hard not to.

What does the Bible say about judging?

"Don't pick on people, jump on their failures, criticize their faults— unless, of course, you want the same treatment. That critical spirit has a way of boomeranging. It's easy to see a smudge on your neighbor's face and be oblivious to the ugly sneer on your own. Do you have the nerve to say, 'Let me wash your face for you,' when your own face is distorted by contempt? It's this whole traveling road-show mentality all over again, playing a holier-than-thou part instead of just living your part. Wipe that ugly sneer off your own face, and you might be fit to offer a washcloth to your neighbor."

Those people are on a dark spiral downward. But if you think that leaves you on the high ground where you can point your finger at others, think again. Every time you criticize someone, you condemn yourself. It takes one to know one. Judgmental criticism of others is a well-known way of escaping detection in your own crimes and misdemeanors. But God isn't so easily diverted. He sees right through all such smoke screens and holds you to what you've done.

"You didn't think, did you, that just by pointing your finger at others you would distract God from seeing all your misdoings and from coming down on you hard? Or did you think that because he's such a nice God, he'd let you off the hook? Better think this one through from the beginning. God is kind, but he's not soft. In kindness he takes us firmly by the hand and leads us into a radical life-change."

Of course, just because people say they're a Christian, it doesn't mean they have a relationship with God. But who are we to judge and determin whether it is true or not? I mean, WHO is the judge?

God. God is the judge.

In SOSE the other week, we were learning about the postitions in court. You know, the judge and the lawyer and all that. When the teacher wrote a description of the judge, I was like -- "Hey! That's God's job, too!" I didn't say that -- I remembered it, because I knew that I was going to be writing a post about it sometime.

Judge -- MAKES THE FINAL JUDGEMENT

Yes. That's God's job, definitely not ours. Read this passaage.

I saw a Great White Throne and the One Enthroned. Nothing could stand before or against the Presence, nothing in Heaven, nothing on earth. And then I saw all the dead, great and small, standing there—before the Throne! And books were opened. Then another book was opened: the Book of Life. The dead were judged by what was written in the books, by the way they had lived. Sea released its dead, Death and Hell turned in their dead. Each man and woman was judged by the way he or she had lived. Then Death and Hell were hurled into Lake Fire. This is the second death—Lake Fire. Anyone whose name was not found inscribed in the Book of Life was hurled into Lake Fire.

No doubt -- the stuff in Revelations is pretty big stuff. But true, too. I guess it shows us that,

a) God judges from what we've done, not what we say we're gonna do.
b)It makes you really realize that what you're wearing today, or if you become famous -- really doesn't matter.

Wow. Keep up the awesome work of being Girlz 4 God, girlz. Forever.

  1. Hey Emii,
I totally agree with you with the judging thing and all. When you said: 'Being a Christian is not about following all the rules and stuff' What rules do you mean? the rules in the bible? Because I would say that we need, as christians, to follow the rules in the bible or we really aren't obeying God which isn't a good Christian.

It's not -- I agree -- about praying ten times a day or going to church every sunday -- though they are good things to do to keep us in a relationship with Jesus.

Thanks for the great post :)

P.s. You also said: "But some of you also didn't think she "acted" like a Christian. How is a "Christian" supposed to act?"
Are you saying is doesn't MATTER how we act as a Christian, or was that a question you answered later on in the post ?

  2. Hey Libby,
I think that Christianity STARTS as a relationship -- but I totally agree with you about following rules -- especially the 10 commandments -- definitely!

And I'm totally not saying that it doesn't matter how we act -- because it does.

And how is a Christian supposed to act? Well, I think they should obey the 10 commandments -- I mean, they are God's law. They should love -- that's such a major part of life. They should forgive.

But I think that, when we become Christians -- we gradually learn to do all this stuff. We're not experts. We need to take it one step at a time -- starting with the relationship part. :)

P.S -- I think I'm gonna add this to the post!

  4. But you know what else? The Bible isn't a book of rules. It's more like a story -- the story of Jesus' life. And you know that guy, who asked Jesus what was the most important commandment or whatever, in Matthew? Jesus summarised the commandments to love your neighbour as yourself and all that. So, really? It's not about the religion, the rules. It's about the relationship. That's what I believe...

  5. Yeah, it's about a relationship, I believe that as well. But to HAVE a good relationship, we have to obey God -- which means, following the rules..
