What I Believe ~ Open Discussion
I've been reading SO many different blogs this week, and have viewed so many different opinions on what people think it is to be a Christian, how we should act, what we should wear, etc!
This post will be a bit different. I'll be posting what people have said about things, blog, then saying what I believe -- or maybe I'll totally agree. That's what this post is called, right? What I believe ~ Open Discussion. Which means that, in your comment -- you're encouraged to comment on what you believe about all these things. I think it will be pretty interesting to see what everyone has to say...
First Topic: Modesty ~ Head Coverings
One of the blogs I went to had a post about head coverings. This person wanted to know what we thought about wearing them, because it seemed to her that this is what the Bible says we should do...
What I believe: I don't think that God really cares if we don't wear head coverings. If He wanted us to cover it up, then why'd he give us hair? And you know what? I thought we that God doesn't care about how we dress. But hey, it IS your choice if you wear one or not, of course :) -- there's nothing at all wrong with it.
In the New Testament, it says this in the NIV version -- I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, 10but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.
BUT -- when you read these two verses in "The Message" bible, it says this: Since prayer is at the bottom of all this, what I want mostly is for men to pray—not shaking angry fists at enemies but raising holy hands to God. And I want women to get in there with the men in humility before God, not primping before a mirror or chasing the latest fashions but doing something beautiful for God and becoming beautiful doing it.
I doesn't say we can't dress awesomely -- it says that we should be spending the time we are doing this for GOD.
I don't know if you remember, but a loong time ago, I did a post called, "Fashion from the Bible". Read that post by clicking HERE.
"Colossians 3:12-14 ...clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness & patience."
And I guess this post has sort of moved into the general area of clothes, but then, that's how I blog :)
What do YOU think about his? (Obviously, I've decided I'll be posting only one issue each time, or this post will literally go on forever!)

Emii, could you let me know if you're gonna do one of these on something I said? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteHey Libby,
ReplyDeleteLol, I decided it was way to selfish and stuff to actually use peoples names! It's more of a thing now where I talk about things that.. well, everyone's talking about :)

My family and I do not wear head coverings, but I have some close friends that do. I was wondering if you were saying that there's something wrong with head coverings, because I believe that if the Lord tells you to do something you should do it and if he told these certain people to wear head coverings, they're obeying Him. There's nothing wrong with that. I don't know, it kind of seemed like you were saying head coverings are not biblical. Is that what you were saying or am I just reading it wrong?
