~*Mini-Interview*~ Stephanie Morrill!!!

Stephanie Morill is the author of "Me, Just Different" "Out With the In Crowd" and "So Over It". And she so very nicely agreed to an interview for Girlz 4 God -- thanks, Steph!

Now, on with the interview.

Who would you say was most supportive of your writing career, when you were first getting into it?
My parents were awesome. My dad actually went to a writer conference with me when I was 17 because I was too afraid to go by myself. He tagged along to all my classes and everything. And any time I expressed fears about never getting published, my parents made it clear that the only thing that would disappoint them was if I stopped trying.

What’s your favourite music to listen to?
Alternative Rock. Particularly snarky break up songs, for some reason. These days, I'm completely in love with Muse. I was all excited about getting to see them in concert this November, but then they're bass player decided he should be home for the birth of his baby and they cancelled their tour date. I'm not as over it as I'd like to be.

What’s the movie you’ve seen that has the best message?
Ooh, good question. One of my favorite movies is the Christmas classic, It's a Wonderful Life. I love its message about our life affecting others, about the importance of living in community. I've watched that movie every year for as long as I can remember, and it gets more and more touching each year.

The movie you watch over and over again, and know all the lines to? Several. I've watched the latest Pride and Prejudice a lot. Same with Office Space and Orange County.

The books you read when you were a teen/little girl?
As a teen, I read whatever was required by my English teacher. (Which is a horrible answer for a young adult author to have to share.) I loved the Bronte sisters.

As a girl, I was all about the Boxcar Children and Babysitters Club. But my favorite was Tuck Everlasting.

You read the Babysitters Club?! I'm smiling right now. I have a 100-and-something of them in one of my bookshelves. I used to LOVE them. It was all I read for a couple of years.
How long did it take you to write the first draft of Me, Just Different?
Well, there were so many complete rewrites of that book, I don't remember how long the original first draft took. Maybe 6 months? From start to shelves, it was 5 years.

What Bible verse do you most find comfort in?
I love the story of Jesus walking on the water and Peter stepping out of the boat. The Bible tells us when Peter started to sink, Jesus reached out for him. Especially at this time in my life - 2 kids under 3, a book that released a couple months ago - I'm grateful that Jesus will reach out to me.

You know, I was just thinking about the other day. I was wondering if I'd have enough faith to keep walking...that's just like life, isn't it? If you have enough faith in God, you keep walking. But like you said -- when you start to sink, he's right there to reach out for you and bring you back up.
What season is your favourite, and why?
Fall. Specifically October. It's a very pretty time in Kansas City with all the changing leaves. And the weather is cool enough for sweaters, but warm enough for flip-flops. Perfect.

Ooh, yes. I noticed for the first time in my life, how beautiful Autumn (I had an American moment and called it Fall the other day. I was like, "Wait, what am I saying?!!!!") is. Ilove it. That's why my blog background is Autumn-y even though it's almost Summer over here:P Which I also love. But this isn't an interview about me, so I'll stop answering all the questions!!
What do you like best about being a mother?
Okay, the answer I keep coming up with - and I don't know if it makes much sense - is "my kids." Just like the best part of being married is my husband. I just like spending time with these people.

How do you feel when you see one of your books, with your name on the front?
Proud of what I accomplished, but also humbled by how God is using the Skylar books. In awe that I somehow got published when there are tons of fabulous writers who've been doing this for much longer than I have, who are still waiting for their break. Scared that my books are out there for people to love or hate. A whole myriad of emotions.
