*Mini-Interview: Nicole O'Dell!!*
And today, I'd like to welcome the author, Nicole O'Dell -- to Girlz 4 God!
Would you rather spend 10 days in the dark or in the light? Like, with the moon or with the sun?
Definitely the sun. I like nighttime and get a lot done in the dark, but I don't think I could stand ten days of dark. The light of the warm sun is refreshing and invigorating, but the moon is inspiring. I guess I like it best the way God designed it--the best of both worlds.
The funniest thing you've ever heard?
My kids say some pretty funny things. Just the other day, one of my two-year old triplets was sick. I asked her if she was feeling okay. She said, "I'm FINE! Let's PLAY!" And started jumping on her bed.
Maybe that's not the funniest thing ever on earth, but it's what sticks out to me at the moment. :)
Decision you've never, ever regretted?
Following Jesus. There are others of course--marrying my husband, having my children, etc. But following Jesus is the only decision I've made that has never had a rough moment and has made all of life's difficult times much more tolerable.
Most humbling moment?
My whole writing journey has been completely humbling. I never thought that God would use me like He is and I'm so honored and humbled to be able to serve him by doing something I absolutely love to do.
What books did you read when you were a kid/teenager?
I read Nancy Drew, Trixie Belden, Little Women, Anne of Green Gables, Little house on the Prairie...really anything I could get my hands on. Typically, I could devour a book in a day. It was difficult for my mom to keep me supplied with stuff to read. :)
Favourite Bible verse -- your life verse?
Philippians 1:6, "being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus."
I love that verse because it really takes the pressure off. I didn't start the work in me, and you didn't start it in you--and we don't finish it in ourselves either. God promises to be faithful in completing His good work.
Ever have a teddy bear? What was his/her name?
No--I never had just one that I clung to. I had piles of stuffed animals, but never named them.
Some advice you were given that you'd like to pass on to us?
Advice about writing? Write because you love to do it, not because of some long-term goal. You'll grow more and feel successful just by putting the words on the page.
Advice about life? It's all about choices. Prepare ahead of time to make Godly choices when the pressure hits.
What inspired you to write "MAGNA"?
When I was fifteen, I worked in a retail store just like Magna. Much of that story is similar to my own experiences, and I often pull from them to write my stories.
Just like all of the Scenarios for Girls books, Magna has a choice for the reader to make for the main character. This helps make those tough decisions and the consequences that follow more real to you as you read. There are four Scenarios books available right now: Truth or Dare, All that Glitters, Magna, and Making Waves. But on April 1st, they are re-releasing in 2-in-1 volumes along with two never -before released stories. Look for Dare to be Different, Risky Business, and Swept Away.
Thanks so much for having me over for a visit!
Thank YOU so much, Nicole! How awesome were those answers? And just for the record -- I have a teddy bear and his name is Tommy. :)
If you want to leave a comment but want to say more than "Wow, Emii, that interview was awesomness!" (lolz!) then why not choose a question and answer it yourself?
Wow, Emii! That interview was awesomeness!
ReplyDeleteMy first teddy bear was named Mrs. Bear... she has marker all over her bear. My current stuffed animals are Ruthie, Charity, Precious, Jiffy, Lacie, Rosabelle, and Brynnleigh.

Cool interview! I like how the questions weren't all about writing, but random things like teddy bears! :) Although I'm reading a series, those books are definitely on my list of books to read! The whole senario thing sounds really neat! :)
