me, just different.
I've been having a great time re-reading Stephanie's Morrill's books about Skylar. Seriously -- for some reason, it's like I can relate to Skylar's own thoughts so much more than a year ago.
Me, Just Different had the best image I have ever, I think -- read. Okay, so it wasn't exactly very nice. But it's deep. And made me think.
Confused, I opened my hand to see what had scared him.
My palm bore a gaping hole into my body, into my soul. I ran my finger through it, pulling away cobwebs and a black ashy substance, as if I rotted away on the inside.
The first time I was doing that skimming thing -- and then I was just like, "Hang on. Lemme read that again."
Such a clear image. When I write, I want to be able to do that -- give my readers an image they can see -- really see.
Maybe for photographers... you really want your viewers to hear what you're trying to say -- even though they can see. With writing, we can hear... but we can't always see, can we? There are some books I can just glide through. Others, well... it's more like climbing a staircase with a lot of breaks. Yes, that was kind of weird. But it makes sense to me. ;)
"If you don't go all the way with me, through thick and thin, you don't deserve me. If your first concern is to look after yourself you'll never find yourself. But if you forget about yourself and look to me, you'll find both yourself and me." Matthew 10, The Message.
I remembered that verse when I was listening to the radio, and just talking to God -- The more I get to know you, the more I know myself.

Yeah, I think an author's goal is not only to write a good, appealing story, but to be able to show the readers it too! :) Great verse, so true!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting! It's funny, too, because I was doing that same skimming thing when I read the quote, then went right back to re-read it so I could soak it up!
ReplyDeleteAnyways, this is so true!
