Book Review: Don't Kiss Him Goodbye by Sandra Byrd
I actually have a couple of posts I'm wanting to write. But first things first, right? I just read the coolest book. "Don't Kiss Him Goodbye." Looking at the cover, this girl, Savvy, could honestly be me. Guitar? Skinny's? Ugg's? Bracelets?
Beside's that, this book is set in England. And had a voucher to spend at our Christian bookstore.
Yes, I bought the book. I think it was written for me.
Savvy writes for the school paper -- an advice column, and nobody knows it's her. Her sister has a secret, and she likes Taylor Swift. There's two guys -- a brunette and a blonde. The best friend, Penny. It's like she thinks about life like I do.
I absolutely loved the creative drawing things on the pages. If you buy the book, you'll know what I'm talking about. They're so cute. And I loved Sandra's writing style. It's as if the book has been written to you.
"And they were standing thisclose." Literally showing. Ilove it.
It was unique. Some chapters literally go for two paragraphs. It was interesting, and some great advice in there. Some good verses, too. Jesus was her friend instead of someone Savvy just occasionally prays to.
Some things were maybe a tad predictable. Like the situation with Savvy's sister. I thought the outcome was a little boring, something I might have read in a Baby-Sitters Club book. It didn't go very deep -- kind of just hit the surface, but not diving down. It seemed like conflict was solved a little too easily, and everything just magically came together. I don't know, maybe that does happen in real life. I've only been here for fifteen years.
But it was an enjoyable read. I mean, I couldn't put it down. I read the whole thing yesterday, with the exception of a chapter or two. It was fun hearing English dialogue, and imagining the characters with English accents. Because I love English accents.
So if you're looking for a light, fun, interesting Christian read with some romance and creativity -- you've found what you're looking for.
