what really counts
I read a post by Ashley Mays over at Girls God and the Good Life, and it just made me think.
God has things to say to us.
When I sit down to listen to God and He speaks through His whisper... I see things in a way I never did before. Or a way I forgot about.
And you know what? His voice is beautiful.
If God's voice is so beautiful, why don't we sit down to hear it more often?
Do you think sometimes God just looks at us and wishes we'd just give Him our full attention and look at Him for five minutes?
He's got things to say to us.
Why don't we seek Him?
Why don't we seek His voice? His words?
He said to Jeremiah,
"When you call on me, when you come and pray to me -- I'll listen. When you come looking for me, you'll find me. Yes, when you get serious about finding me and want it more than anything else, I'll make sure you won't be disappointed." Jeremiah 29:12-14 [The Message]
We've gotta want it more than anything else. You know when you loose, say, your toothbrush -- you're going to look for it, right? Because if you don't brush your teeth, well, oh dear. So you'll search and search and search and... there it is! Behind the windowsill. Because dad cleaned the bathroom and put the toothbrushes away so that it wouldn't look messy.
You weren't going anywhere without brushing your teeth. No matter how late you were going to be for school -- you were determined to find the silly toothbrush and brush your teeth.
I think that's kind of what God wants us to be like with Him -- we need Him. We can't leave for school without finding Him and talking to Him, just like you've got to brush your teeth or you'll be tasting cereal all morning. Ew.
Just like the guarantee of a toothbrush is that you're mouth will be fresh and clean -- God promises we'll find Him. And we won't be disappointed.
dear God,
i pray we'll forget about everything else and look to You.
ultimately, You're all that matters.
so if we can see the big picture... why can't we see like that day-by-day, situation for situation,
that obeying You is what counts?
