three days three days THREE DAYS!
It's three days until Christmas. The sun is getting hotter and I painted my toenails.
I was riding my bike for the first time in two years and I noticed how rusty it was.
I haven't even ridden it before. Why's it gone all rusty?
Why do things go rusty? Because they've been in the rain. Because you've totally neglected them.
The thing is, when you put something in storage, as much as you expect to get it out in the same condition you left it -- it just doesn't happen, does it? A book comes out of the box crinkled. Bread gets squished. Clothes get wrinkled. Hats get bent out of shape and photo frames get dusty.
Your phone gets stolen, someone tears apart your dream.
We rely on things. We invest in them.
But the fact is... they're not gonna last. Don't store up treasure's here on earth. In my last post, I wrote about giving up your warm fuzzy coat and everything, and why should we have to give it away? Well, we were never going to be able to keep it, anyway.
We're here to learn to love God. All of us; you and me. Every person on this planet. And a way to do that, I think, is to love each other.
Waking up early Christmas morning, rushing to the tree... well, our tree -- a fake one, mind you -- was covered in spider webs, so let's make that an imaginery tree -- opening presents, going as slow as possible so that it will last longer and finally just tearing the paper off because it's too much fun... it's wonderful.
I love Christmas. I'm getting excited right now.
Oh! I was about to finish the post and I'm like, "Wait. What was the point in this? There's something missing."
Be willing to give. It's better to give than to receive -- really. That's what Jesus says. And He knows.

Store your treasure's in Heaven. Where they'll last forever; they won't go rusty and they won't get dusty. God will look after them for you and nobody, no-one, will be able to take them.
But store your treasures in heaven where they cannot be destroyed by moths or rust and where thieves cannot break in and steal them.
Your heart will be where your treasure is.

I think we all need to hear this, especially before Christmas. I know how easy it is to get wrapped up in "stuff." I need to keep in mind that, though enjoying things on earth is not wrong, I need to make Jesus my Treasure.
ReplyDeleteRecently, I read a quote by J.I. Packer, which said, "In the order of creation, pleasures are meant to serve as pointers to God." We even enjoy things for God. Our mindset should be, "Wow, this stuff is great...just think how much better God is!"
